General Info
Hi there!
You might be wondering the following:
"Why on earth do you want to waste your time like this?"
or; "Will this even turn out good?!"
The answers are, 1. I always waste my time, and I study game development. So this is good practice, and 2. No. Probably not.
Anyway. I thought I'd make a game in the Unity game engine. ANYONE on this website can help to do so, if they so wish.
What I mainly need is ART. Sadly, this is where all of my cells say "NO" in unison, so that'd what I was imagining perhaps some of you would like to do. Perhaps there is someone who wants to see some of their amazing art seen alive and moving in a game, or maybe you just want to see something funny. ANYTHING goes.
Not good at art? NO PROBLEM!
This game isn't meant to look visually pleasing, or anything of the sort. Nothing has been decided yet, and I hope some of you will give some input on what you wish to see, or what YOU want. Every opinion matters. There is only one thing though. The game HAS to be 2D. No exceptions!
So here goes:
PERSPECTIVE
This is the main issue. We have two choices on how the game will be.
A side scrolling platformer,
or
Asymmetric.
Both will be "Tile-Based". I'll talk more about what that means in a second.
Whatever we choose will have have an impact on how the game will LOOK.
Sidescrollers come in many different styles. The art here can be whatever we want it to, really.
Asymmetric is better to use for story-based games. You can of course add some "Action", like avoidance, or some such.
Like in the Binding of Isaac:
STORY
Another issue, is "WHAT IS THE GAME ABOUT?" This is something that can be very focused, or it can be completely open.
The game can be serious, in a sense. Or it can be funny and random. With strange characters appearing, and things happening that has no real correlation with each other.
THE ART
Finally, there's the ARTWORK. The one thing I shudder at the thought of. Art is the most important part when it comes to 2D games.
Every single piece of art is an ASSET. Assets are the CORE of our game. Having the game 2D simplifies the process of adding things into the game, however. And this makes the interaction with all of you SO MUCH BETTER! (:

I think it's a cool idea. I'm trying to make a map for the kingdoms, but it's becoming increasingly difficult to balance things. I'll give it to you if I finish.

At some point if there is any interest in this, I will make another topic where I talk about what we NEED, and what is OPTIONAL.
For example; I can find assets for floors or backgrounds for free.
