Re: World Building: The Time Kingdom (Rain)

Post by Thunder-Paws on May 3rd 2016, 2:53 pm

I have... land.. ideas... for Time...

So, I really like the idea of a desert landscape. A dry and sandy desert to be exact. Time and Deserts just fit so well symbolically. Deserts represent things like eternity, humility, loneliness, and spirituality...

"Both visually and symbolically, the desert is free of confusion; there is no doubt. Because they are wide, open vistas without covering vegetation, they represent brutal honesty, impersonal struggle and the harsh realities of survival."

"There are no distractions, giving deserts an association with clarity, revelation and purity. Because it is such a difficult, threatening terrain type, it represents barriers, obstacles and challenges. There are strong overtones of spirituality and religion bound up symbolically with desert landscapes. These areas are brutal, but they call upon the deepest reserves of a traveller’s will. In these struggles, there is no barrier to the heavens, no distractions or comforts to distract the soul from its communion."

"The desert can be a source of wisdom and enlightenment, of trial but also of reward. It is so far outside of normal existence that only the spiritual and divine can touch and influence it."

"When a man walks or rides into a forest, he is lost among the trees, can't see ahead, doesn't know what might be lurking there. The forest surrounds him, obscures him with shadows, confuses itself with him by its vertical composition and competitive detail. But when a horseman appears on the desert plain, he dominates it instantly, his view extends as far as the eye can see, and enemies are exposed to his gaze. The desert flatters the human figure by making it seem dominant and unique, dark against the light, vertical against horizontal, solid against plane, detail against blankness."

"There is nothing to stop the horseman's free movement across the terrain...Distance, made palpable through exposure and infinitely prolonged by the absence of obstacles, offers unlimited room to move. The man can go, in any direction, as far as he can go. The possibilities are infinite."

OH, ALSO,

I view Time wolves as Observers? Observers in as they don't get involved in any of the other nations politics or other foreign relation stuff. They are strictly neutral. Time wolves simply watch... recording down history as it is made...

I can see that as well, but I think of towering evergreens and timeless forests, who've seen the ages as they pass.

Ancient forests, yeah.

Earth also values tradition, valuing patience and slow movement, so I can see Earth in that kind of environment as well.

Definitely. Time does make me think observers, but also working perhaps with Moon to keep large records? Moon would have more records than them, after all, as they're older.

Definitely. Moon and Time could be good really good writers. Space as well, but they keep records on "outer-world" happenings... ?

I also sorta view Wind as being very good writers too, but in a creative sense. Like writing fictional novels for entertainment.

Water could be good at drama's.... jk xD

This is pretty much what I've been building them on all along, FYI.

I want time wolves to be "Bookworms". Recording history, with the biggest libraries with loads of recorded history. They want to understand the meaning of the world around them, and especially what the element of time truly is. They try to be open towards everything, and record mostly everything they come by.
Then there are pilgrims, wandering the different kingdoms with charts, and equipment so they can record the things they discover, or the data that they acquire. But I don't want them to be scientific, in a big way. They are mostly interested in Physics, in that regard. But they should be mostly history based. Maybe obscure themselves from certain things, but also discover obscured things. Something hypocritical like that.
For their appearance, I was thinking about Quartz. Don't ask why, but Sand Quartz is amazing, and I thought they could hang them from their fur in random locations, to represent their element of time. Which leads me to their build, which would more or less be a slightly big form, as they have to survive ravenous heat, and the deserts. (Yes, I thought of that) This gives them better survivability in the desert when it comes to nutrients, and water. However, they wouldn't be great fighters, due to their bodies without a lot of meat on them.
Fur would be in pale shades. From creamy white to sand brown, markings can adapted to will.
Time would also have the explanation of their origin; "They were really "always" there." Which is why they have huge amounts of records in languages some may not even understand.
I have more ideas, but I can't write more right now.

Come with some more if you have it.

That's awesome, dude! Another thing I thought of regarding how "advanced" they are?

Like you said, they don't have the current technological advances that some kingdoms have now, but you know how you said they have "always been there"?

Well... what if they have technology, but its technology that no one but the Time wolves know how to use? Even Lightning wolves are baffled by it. And I'm not talking about technology like steel or motorized/light up gadgetry stuff, but more... mystical? I'm not sure how to explain it...

Yeah, that makes sense to me. I can see the Time wolves also working with the Space wolves in order to create "prophecies" I guess? Warnings of oncoming doom for the land, and what needs to be done?

Well, if we take in a bit of magic, that'd be awesome. Just how you can't explain the element of time, and nobody can. They can have a power source that resembles them. Needs to be written more on, for now.

As for prophecies, we always had that rule of only a few minutes into the future, and time wolves are extremely exposed while doing this. So I was kind of thinking we could combine that with this "power source" idea. Or maybe just one wolf of each element posses the power to make these prophecies, and these two has to meet together for some annual ritual to see what will come of the world, and what can be done. Could make for an awesome plot.
